Competitions

All competitions can only be entered by members whose club is affiliated with Scottish Association of Writers and who are attending SAW Conference in March 2022. Open competitions may be entered by non-attendees but they still must be a member of an affiliated club.

CLOSING DATE FOR SHORT COMPETITIONS:
Saturday 15th January 2022

Each entry must be accompanied by the appropriate fee. (i.e. Book length entries £10.00 – All other main categories £5.00 each). Please note that competition fees are non-refundable.

To pay for your competitions –
a) Navigate to Competition Page
b) Select competition/s you want to enter.
c) Select number of entries for competition/s – Add to Basket
d) To enter additional competitions repeat steps above
e) Check basket before checking out
f) You can pay by bank transfer (BACS), cheque (address will come up when you choose cheque) or Paypal and credit card.

Fill in the Competition Slip and upload your entry for each competition.
a) Navigate to Conference 2022 then click on Competition Slips.
b) Fill in your details. Please make sure to check you’ve uploaded the correct file to the correct competition

Only the Self Published book should be posted. All other entries should be made online. Email Janice  competitions@scottishassociationofwriters.com for the address to send the self published book directly to the adjudicator. Mark the envelope ‘SAW competition’.

Entries must be uploaded by midnight on the closing date. These dates are final, and no late entries will be accepted, however early submissions are welcomed.

Postal rates depend on size and weight. Weigh the parcel at a post office, where you can obtain (free of charge) a certificate of posting. Please ensure sufficient postage is used. Please note proof of posting does not mean proof of delivery.

After your competition payment, please make sure you upload your competition manuscript via the competition slips page. Also, please fill in our conference registration 2022 form.

To pay for your competitions –
a) Hover over Conferences 2022 on Scottish Association of Writers website then click on Competitions.
b) Find the competition you want to enter and click on View Competition.
c) Use the arrows to change the number of entries for that competition then click Add to Basket
d) If you want to enter another competition go back to b) and repeat
e) Check the basket at the top to View Basket and see what you have entered. You can change numbers or delete on this page.
f) You can pay by direct bank transfer, cheque (address will come up when you choose cheque) or Paypal and credit card.

Competition Slip and Entry
Fill in the Competition Slip (found on the Scottish Association of Writers website) and upload your entry for each competition.

Packing

TITLE PAGE

Centre your text and use a large font size. On the title page of your manuscript show:

Competition category:
Title of entry:
Pseudonym: (ONE word, please)
Number of words: (Lines for poetry)

Pseudonym should be changed from previous years and a different pseudonym is required for each entry.

Please fully complete an insert form for every submission, (Slips are provided in the Prospectus and online). Attach the insert form to your entry with a paper clip.

If paying by cheque attach the fee to the entry with a paperclip. A personal cheque will not invalidate your entry but any other identification on the entry could lead to disqualification. One cheque may be used for multiple entries.  Make cheques or postal orders payable to Scottish Association of Writers.  (NOTE: Do not send cash!) 

Take particular care in the packing of manuscripts (especially multiple entries and novels) to ensure they are protected and that they reach the Competition Secretary safely. Entrants wishing confirmation that their entries have been received should send a stamped addressed postcard, listing the titles of all entries in that package, which the Competition Secretary will tick to indicate receipt return. If more than one package is posted, postcards should be enclosed, listing the contents of each package.

Postal rates depend on size and weight. Use an A4 envelope and ensure adequate postage is attached.  (NOTE: A4 envelopes require, at the minimum, a Large Letter Stamp). Weigh the envelope at a post office, where you can obtain (free of charge) a certificate of posting.  Please ensure sufficient postage is used.  Please note – Proof of posting does not mean proof of delivery.
