Founded in 1970, Ayr Writers’ Club is one of Scotland’s biggest and most successful writing clubs. Meeting on Wednesday evenings between September and May at the Mercure Hotel, Ayr, we extend a warm welcome to everyone interested in the art of writing. Members range from novice writers to experienced, published authors, poets and dramatists.

We thrive on an exciting and diverse programme of speakers’ evenings, workshops and feedback nights, covering novels, short stories, poetry, drams, non-fiction, children’s fiction and more. Past speakers who have inspired members include Janice Galloway, Graeme McCrae Burnet , Alan Bissett and Caro Ramsay.

Our impressive competition programme of eleven competitions, adjudicated by experts in each field who provide constructive feedback, encourages members to try their hand at all forms of writing with the chance of winning book token prizes and trophies. Every May we hold an Awards Dinner to celebrate our successful winners.
