Erskine Writers is a well-established club for those interested in creative writing in the Renfrew and West Dunbartonshire area. It has been in existence for well over thirty years, has an active membership of approximately eighteen enthusiastic writers and a handful of postal members. It meets every Tuesday afternoon during the academic year and has an average weekly attendance of about a dozen or so. We have a structured and varied self-created syllabus, pegged by four in-house competitions and welcome occasional guest writers to deliver workshops on specific disciplines, adjudicate our challenges and creatively critique our entries. Members are also encouraged to complete various homework tasks in response to the syllabus and highlight any self-generated work under the banner of “own manuscripts”. This gives us a wide, far reaching approach through short stories, poetry, articles, scripts, memoirs in all manner of different genres – from sci-fi to historical and all stations in between. Recently we have taken up residence in the Erskine Sports Centre where we form part of the Erskine Arts Hub and we encourage anyone in the locality with a creative writing ambition to join us.
